Audio Visuals

Over the course of this year, I have been learning and developing my skills on touch designer. I mostly plan to create audio reactive visuals or interactive showcases. My first two projects are an audio reactive visualiser and an interactive particle simulation. For my next projects I am looking to be able to use camera information and lighting systems to allow interactivity in the real world.

Particle simulation

This particle simuulation is able to be interacted with using a computers cursor. As well as having numerous key based changes which allow for changes to the particles generation. I have also experimented with touch designers particles.gpu tool which is a much more indepth particle simulation, Which I hope to use with a synthersizers parameters to have an audio reactive experience

This was my first creation in touch desinger and was my first project in toruch designer I mostly used it to learn the basics of the UI and understand how it worked. I found it quite similar to MAX/MSP with the work flow and visuals. This visualiser uses the song "Echoes" by Sorry, It uses the input from the audio to create a signal which is controls the noise sops translation giving the audio active effect. The lines/grid is insipred by FLuffy noise by DeRe, which I split from to create the effect of the grid. I think i can improve the visuals using effects like a feedback loop and maybe some other TOPs as well as using the audio analysis tool in touch desinger.

P5.JS Audio Visuals

I took part in the coding the audiovisuals module in my second year at Sussex. I really enjoyed learning P5.JS its quite a different type of development to touch designer which Im now using. For my project I created a visualiser using 3D models and a sphere which uses signal from a microphone to alter the spheres geometry.

Film Composition

These compositions were done for my Film and audiovisual module. I took 2 scenes from La Haine, and composed a score for each peice to explore Chion's idea of added value through empathetic and anempathetic music. Empathetic music is music which synchronise with the peice and is appropriate for the scene, anempathetic music intentionally does not fit the scene and is designed to contradict the visuals. My aim in these compositions was to see if a scene could still give added value while trying to be empathic and anempathic at the same time.

I've written a whole creative commentary for these compositions if you want to know more information on my process and development on this project check out the commentary.

Software Instruments

Twister

Twister is a instrument I made for my creative music technologies module. It had built on my work with jitter and using camera information to control parameters. Twister uses google media pipe's body tracking information as its primary source of control, pictures of different poses are able to be used to set the pose potitions you want to have a certain sound. The ability to set a certain sound to a certain position is done using fluid corpus maniulation which is a form of machine learning which is trained on the settings of the synth and each pose and will be able to create a preset for each sound which it then will be able to change between and combine to an average of two positions.

Check out my commentary on the development and thinking behind Twister Below.

Colour based sampler

This Project was my second using MAX/MSP and was a pretty fun idea. This project used jitters colour tracking to allow the user to play samples and used the cordinates of the colors position to change different parameters. Its main issue was how hard it was to control in a new enviroment, when performing with it needed a very spefic lighting set up which was quite hard to achieve and caused numerous problems during the live performance with the instrument.
